Colourfull lines
In May 2000 a fireworks factory exploded in Enschede and destroyed a number of nearby houses. The plan for the urban reconstruction is defined by a framework of long lines that have a distinctive character. The lines follow the original outline of the neighbourhood and connect the various small neighbourhoods. Besides the public space there is a great deal of architectural freedom. The centre of the neighbourhood is formed by a green square. Here the lines come together in what is called the ‘Knot’.
