Innercity of Enschede
Enschede
Rings and pearls
The redevelopment plan for the city of Enschede, from master plan to realization. In the design the structure of rings (streets) and pearls (squares), is made more explicit. Enschede is a city that owes much of its wealth and glory to the textile industry of the 18th century. Coming from an industrial background the municipality has the ambition to change the city into a modern, knowledge based centre. Past and ambition are reflected in the design of the public space. The materials that are used are robust but with an industrial refinement. During the design process, support is gained at civil, political and social level.
